Shutterbugs is a program for budding photographers aged from 8-14 years who would like to learn more photography in a fun, immersive and practical way.
Taught by experienced photographers, the Shutterbugs program consists of five 2-hour sessions run weekly on Sundays in Terms 2 and 4 in 2026.
Term 2 sessions
Sunday 26 April
11am – 1 pm
Camera basics
In this session we’ll explore the fundamentals of how cameras work. We’ll identify the parts of a traditional camera and their function. Finally, we’ll make a pinhole camera.
Sunday 3 May
11am – 1pm
Aperture, shutter speed and depth of field
In this session we’ll explore aperture, shutter speed and ISO – what they are and how to use them.
Sunday 10 May
11am – 1pm
Cameraless photography
In this session we’ll make a composition and use light to activate photosensitive materials, producing a uniquely beautiful lumen print.
Sunday 17 May
11am – 1pm
What makes a good photo?
In this session we’ll explore principles of composition, framing techniques and viewpoints to help understand what makes a good photo.
Sunday 24 May
Art ideas
In this session we’ll explore how themes and ideas inform image-making and how images communicate ideas. We’ll create photographic compositions that respond to a series of ‘big idea’ art challenges.
